In my own perspective I do believe that men and women do have different styles in leadership. This idea is not based on their gender preferences but rather on their respective values and ideals that are relevant to their respective environment. Operating on the behaviorist perspective, man’s actions are cultivated as an adequate response from the environment. It is through this that man can ascertain similar roles due to their ability to observe and perceive actions from individuals and group.
Applying this to the concept of leadership, people’s styles are denoted on their ability to interact accordingly and gain the necessary principles and values relating to their field. For example some approaches may deal with the connotation of feminine however it continues to be manifested by their male counterpart. The same idea also applies for male representations which are represented by women. Due to this, it is the current environment and particular values and principles under a specific organization move and transcends the element of leadership.
It is through adaptation and synchronization of values do people gain new ideas leading effective and efficient application. Through this, people get to determine patterns of behavior and create significant areas that make practice better for everyone. Response 1: Reflecting on the post made, it can be seen that today’s society has been shaping professionals to become competent regardless of their gender. I would agree to the author that the measurement should not be based on physical ability but rather on the capability to accomplish specific goals and objectives.
The idea of job performance is a relative concept that needs to be understood under the parameters of (1) comfort, (2) environment and (3) motivation. Thus, gender should never be a factor that either impedes or promotes such development. Also, I would also agree to the argument of the author that the concept of culture is another significant element that promotes either the promotion or separation of male and females in the work environment.
However, I will have to argue that today’s society increasing interdependence and competition brought about by globalization and interdependence, these innate principles and values about gender are slowly being transformed towards a competitive, organizational, and goal-driven values. Lastly, the differences in men and women in terms of their approach to work cannot be eliminated or removed. Rather than creating standards that seek to separate and allocate these traits in specific responsibilities, organizations should reinforce these instruments to create effective and better outcomes.
Such idea can increase chances to promote and reinforce objectives necessary for growth and development. I believe that by transcending into these differences and using each one as tools can supplement the areas for increased productivity and optimized tasks. Response 2: Reacting to this post, I do believe that whatever the characteristics and roles that society provides among men and women are gradually changing and diversifying today. One cannot really determine which is supposed to be one due to the fact that both parties (male and female) can do these tasks and responsibilities.
On the other hand, what needs focusing in the idea of gender differentiation involves the value system and principles each one advocates. This in turn can ascertain which component is vital and significant in creating effective outcomes and accomplishment of specific goals. Thus, rather than pointing out relative gender differences and specific responsibilities, a focus must focus on what each individual is capable of and how can they actively contribute to the growth of a specific organization.
Response 3: In this post, I will have to adhere to the claim of the author that personality traits do constitute an important basis for determining leadership capabilities for both male and females. However, this is not the sole parameters that can reveal such skills. Since a type of leadership capability is dependent on the specific associated tasks provided by an organization or occupation one is involved in, the personality trait can either complement or hinder the completion of specific objectives.
This especially applies today as people begin to realize the continuing changes happening in the environment and increasing relatedness and connections via the Internet. Due to this, the point of leadership style must actively coincide and be adaptive to the current scenario. Such aspect can help both men and women to become proactive in the 21st century. Thus, I do believe that personality is one relevant facets shaping leadership. But, it is the mixture of adaptability, competence and experience that stimulates and brings out the best out of everyone regardless of gender and personal values.
